Over 21% of Linn County adults are considered binge drinkers, compared with a state
average of 20.1%.
76% of 11th Grade students in Linn County have tried alcohol at least once versus
only 71% Statewide.
Linn County Partnership on Substance Abuse (LCPSA)
Mission: To provide a unified community effort for sharing resources, increasing
awareness of substance abuse through education, building relationships, and advocating
for people affected by substance abuse.
The LCPSA primary concern is to increase awareness and prevention of substance abuse.

LCPSA Workgroups
Linn County Underage Drinking Coalition - Works to promote healthy lifestyle
choices for young people by addressing the issue of underage drinking in Linn County.
Goals are education, development and support of consistent consequences for underage
drinking, and motivation for youth to remain alcohol free by providing alternative
activities.
Healthy Youth Promotion Effort (HYPE) - Addresses the role of mentoring and
other protective factors in preventing youth from engaging in high-risk behaviors.
Goals are to create a community in which youth and parent figures feel competent
and confident seeking services and programs that can meet their needs and which
consistently promote youth development through prevention activities that reduce
substance abuse and other risky behaviours by planning, implementing and promotion.
COMMIT Tobacco Free Coalition - Diverse group that is dedicated to prevention,
cessation, and education of tobacco use and related issues in the Linn County community.
Goals include supporting local and statewide tobacco-related events and issues,
increasing awareness of issues related to tobacco use, increasing youth involvement
in State-level advocacy efforts, and promoting cessation and education.
LCPSA is funded by a grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy
called the Drug-Free Communities Grant. To learn more, click
