“New research suggests that physical activity and other healthy choices can go a long way in extending lifespan. Many of the very old have decent odds of reaching their 100th birthday, even if they are living with chronic illness.”
~Allison Aubrey NPR: Health & Science

According to the Iowa Department of Health, about 200,000 Iowans had asthma in 1999, of which 40,000 were under the age of 18.

Approximately 5,000 people die from asthma each year nationwide.

Linn County Asthma Reduction Coalition (LCARC)

Mission: To identify the asthma education needs of the community and increase their knowledge of asthma and asthma management skills.

The LCARC is guided by the goals of the Iowa Asthma Coalition and the Department of Public Health: Asthma patients and their families are empowered and knowledgeable and capable of taking responsibility for their own health outcomes. Community and interested organizations will focus on providing resources and education about asthma and its triggers. Decisions and actions regarding asthma are based on needs and priorities that are measured and documented with sound methods. Public policy at all levels supports a healthy citizenry and a reduction in the incidence and severity of asthma in Iowa.
